New Roads and Street Works Act (NRSWA) 1991 – Supervisor

Who should attend?

This course is suitable for supervisors that monitor operatives performing excavation, backfill and reinstatement of various materials for undertaking of street works, who require a SWQR (Street Works Qualification Register) card.

Course Aims & Objectives

The purpose of the course is to provide delegates with the skills and knowledge to perform supervisor duties in line with the current New Roads and Street Works Act, in order to safeguard themselves and others.

By the end of the course delegates will:

  • Understand the requirements of the NRSW Act 1991.
  • Be able to select appropriate personal protective and safety equipment as required to carry out street works activities.
  • Monitor duties performed by operatives for each unit and/or qualification as prescribed by the standards in-line with current legislation.
  • Provide a safe working environment for themselves and others.

Course Outline

The NRSWA (Supervisors) training course includes:

LA – Location and avoidance of underground apparatus
S1 – Monitoring signing, lighting and guarding
S2 – Monitoring excavation in the highway
S3 – Monitoring reinstatement and compaction of backfill material
S4 – Monitoring reinstatement of cold-lay bituminous materials
S5 – Monitoring reinstatement of hot-lay bituminous materials
S7 – Monitoring reinstatement of modular surfaces and concrete footways

Additional Units (additional days training is required and additional cost):

S6 – Monitoring reinstatement of concrete slabs

Certification

On successful completion of the course and assessments, delegates will receive their certification which is valid for 5 years and will be registered on the Street Works Qualifications Register receiving an SWQR Card.
